Actress Kirstie Alley has died at age 71 of cancer. Probably best known during her career for comic roles, to Star Trek fans she will always be remembered as Lieutenant, j.g., Saavik of Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, released forty years ago during the summer. Seeing it with my Bride to Be was a high point of that summer otherwise dedicated to studying for the Bar Exam.
A woman of considerable courage, she was an outspoken conservative in an industry which demands political conformity to the Left.
I will miss her. My condolences and prayers to her children. May she fare well in the next world. For the truly dauntless spirits among us there are no Kobayashi Maru scenarios that cannot be surmounted.
This one is a shock. That’s a young age to pass. Didn’t know she was ill. Rest in Peace Kirstie Alley.
Apparently her cancer was only diagnosed recently.
She overcame her cocaine addiction. Yes, it was thru the Scientology program Narconon that she got sober; she was a Scientologist. But as a recovering addict and alcoholic, I salute her and pray that the Almighty in His mercy overlooks the Scientology part of her life.
No, 71 is not an especially young age to die, it’s just that “too young” becomes older and older as we age. Also, it’s hard to accept that actors and actresses are not still just the same age as in the movies and TV shows for which we remember them. We’re all just babies by antediluvian standards, though.
“Seventy is the sum of our years,
or eighty, if we are strong;
Most of them are toil and sorrow;
they pass quickly, and we are gone.”

@QUOTERMEISTER — Exactly. That is also another great example of a passage I learned as a child, but did not really UNDERSTAND until much later. That is to say, the meaning only really hits home with age and experience.
No, 71 is not an especially young age to die,
In my opinion it’s young. Your “correction” of my opinion is redundant.

Ez – It’s most likely an observation based purely on perspective.
Her common sense isn’t common in these dark days. I do love her frankness and expression of thought.
She most definitely will be missed.
May God grant her eternal rest and peace.
As far as 71 goes?
Since I’m closing in on it I’d say…
Heck Yes…that’s young!
Ezabelle.
Damn straight…from the office of redundancy office.
Peace be yours.
WK Aiken- he shamelessly personally insults others on other posts, doesn’t bother offering an apology, then thinks he can liberally comment on their comments. If it was another commenter I wouldn’t have cared.
I made it to 72.
The Bible says, “three score and ten” and I’m blessed to have lived to see nine of my children’s children.
Each day is a gift. We are here a short time. Pray much, glorify God through Jesus, and do good – what God wants you to do – in your allotted lifetime.
