The usual Vichy regime Catholics are mighty upset by this address, which is a bonus. Wish a football player didn’t have to do the job that the bishops should be doing.
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
It’s as if he wrote this for the clerics of our day;
“Listen, you do-nothing superiors of clerics and priests. Listen, and even though you feel sure of yourselves, tremble at the thought that you are partners in the guilt of others; those, I mean, who wink at the sins of their subjects that need correction and who by ill-considered silence allow them license to sin. Listen, I say, and be shrewd enough to understand that all of you alike are deserving of death, that is, not only those who do such things, but also they who approve those who practice them.” — St. Peter Damian
On a related note, Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of Springfield IL has posted two videos regarding Biden’s “mockery of the Catholic faith” by making the Sign of the Cross at a pro-abortion gathering. He later posted a follow up answering the question “But what about Trump?” (Duh, he’s NOT CATHOLIC and hasn’t publicly mocked the Catholic faith)
This kid is great. He is an acolyte in the Latin Mass. I don’t typically follow NFL being an Aussie but I recall this kid kicking the winning kick (excuse the amateur lingo) for his team at last years Super Bowl and I remember watching it and just thinking God rewards the good ones.
They cant touch him. God looks after His own.

Many of our bishops go about their pastoral duties in a rather perfunctory manner, causing neither controversy nor admiration. Sort of reminds me of Samuel Johnson’s comparison of women preachers and dogs walking on hind legs.

Ezabelle-
“They” most certainly can touch him.
As referenced in today’s Mass readings, the world will hate the followers of Christ because the world first hated Him.
At least that puts us in good company 🙂

This commencement address was exceptional.
His misty eye moment moved me.
I’m certain it did too, for his beloved…
Isabelle.
Benedictine College picked a winner imho.

Now, if Butker had criticized Biden’s open border policy or openly supported the death penalty, the bishops wouldn’t hesitate to speak out…AGAINST HIM!
On a more positive note, at least one of Butker’s teammates has his back.

Here’s a shorter version of the “what about Trump” response:

CAG, I grew up in Detroit and won’t publicly call myself a Lions fan. You’re a braver man than I.
