Sad news that Walter Williams has died at 84. A tireless, and witty, defender of free market economics, Williams was ever a friend of liberty and an opponent of statism, from his military service during which he fought against discrimination against black soldiers for which he was court martialed and won an acquittal, acting as his own defense council, to his most recent column attacking the mess which is urban public education. Go here to read it. Williams was an American original, endowed by God with a fighting spirit and a superb mind, and I will miss him greatly. May he now be in that Kingdom where want and oppression are non-existent.
Terrible news. Rest in peace.
He was the best Rush Limbaugh guest host.
“Black by popular demand” as he would say!
Never looked at a bibliography of his work. I liked him as a public figure because of his brio, and how that informed his understanding of the black experience in America. His implicit counsel was to have a thick hide, to remember that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent, and enjoy the human comedy.
Mr. Williams was long on common sense and short on patience with idiocracy. RIP.
I always enjoyed hearing him on the radio. Wry humor and common sense. In those days he was a professor of Economics at George Mason University. There was another conservative in that department who was a Catholic. I hate to think what they are teaching there now. Professor Williams, rest in peace.
I’m very sorry to hear this. He was very articulate, and blessed with boatloads of common sense and humor.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Surprisingly, a very nice tribute at https://economics.gmu.edu/articles/15240
