I Have Always Liked the Impressionists

Of all the schools of Art they strike me as the most original when it comes to the play of light upon their subjects.   Of course that is my subjective opinion, but when it comes to Art, the subjective is always dominant. The history of Art is a great sea, and the best guide through that sea I have found is the late Paul Johnson’s Art: A New History (2003).  Much of contemporary Art is poisonous grift, but that is not a reason to neglect the heights the human mind has reached in this important field of human  endeavor.  Go here to read a review of Johnson’s tome.

Much of contemporary Art is poisonous grift”
So true. My wife and I were in Italy a couple of weeks ago, We saw
The Pieta, David, The Last Supper, works by Caravaggio and Bernini. Pieces of incredible talent and skill. Today taping a banana to the wall is considered art.
