My favorite books are like old friends who I never tire of. Currently making my way through the Decline and Fall for the fourth time, and reading the Shelby Foote trilogy for the third.

Christmas and New Year’s is the time to re-read “The Lord of the Rings”
(for the ???th year)
Dang.
Just remembered my copy of Decline and Fall is in my mom’s basement.
1400 miles away.
When I reread books, I get too distracted trying to remember the material or how I reacted to it upon first reading. I increasingly find myself doing the same thing with TV and movies.
The big exception is Chesterton. Whenever I read something of his, I want to go back and reread everything, just to fit it all into my head. He’s like a really good conversationalist who makes you want to replay every past conversation.
