Spain of course sided with the colonists during the American Revolution. France gets all the press, but Spanish aid to the fledgling United States was just as important in the winning of American independence.

And the Spanish did indeed help, but did not send 12K men to fight and a Navy to blockade.

My Irish ancestors were in Spanish West Florida during the Revolution. I often wonder if some weren’t irregulars in the Spanish attacks on British forts down there.
