Thought For The Day

Go here to read the story.  Is it too much to ask that lunatics not be made archbishops?  Bishops and above should stay off social media.  Nothing good comes from most of their posts.  I am sure Sister Calamus would agree with me.

Apparently it is.

This excerpt is exactly what I was looking for:

Bishop Joseph Strickland, who was removed from leadership of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas last year, was also known for controversial social media posts, including one in which he said he “rejects” Pope Francis’ “program undermining the Deposit of Faith.”

Two months before Strickland’s removal, a source close to the Dicastery for Bishops told The Pillar that Strickland’s statements on social media were considered a serious problem by Vatican officials.

Before commenting on social media on this issue, Bishops should be required to watch the October 7th attacks by Hamas on a loop for eight continuous hours. And as for the two State solution would somebody like to tell the pope how many times that’s been offered to the Palestinians and flatly rejected? Oh. Sorry. My mistake. It wouldn’t make any difference since it doesn’t fit the leftist political agenda.

I completely disagree. Let the social media continue.

It is important to see the character of people who have been entrusted with power. More airbrushing is not the way. Let them speak so we can more easily discern whether we ought to respect their opinions in general.

More evidence usually leads to better conclusions. Also why don’t marry after the first date…

Because Don has been kind enough to republish the bishop’s comments here several times, I know that whatever the bishop says that is not exactly echoed in the deposit of faith is rather suspect. For the same reason, I feel precisely the opposite way about Don’s opinions 🙂

Stepping back, I just realized I trust a lawyer more than a bishop! Whatever would the Tudors say!

As a former long time member of the San Antonio diocese, I will note that they have a history of bishops who are given to some rather strange statements and also failure to speak for the Church when guidance, especially pro-life, was needed. It appears that there is a cabal in Rome that recommends these appointments based on the belief that proper ethnicity is the dominant requirement rather than possessing authentic theology.

“The account of Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, is his personal account; it is not the official account of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. …”

The Archbishop is THE Authority in the Archdiocese. There is no separation of “personal” and “official”. This implies that some low level employee can override what the Archbishop says. Idiots.
