and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?

Ok I get it. He’s a fence sitter and lacks the guts to stand up to Chinas tyranny.

The upside to his visit to Mongolia is that the first Mongolian Priest has been ordained in a thousand years. Mongolia has a Christian population of less than 2%.

Ezabelle, you may well be right that this is simply a matter of PF having a lack of spine vis-a-vis China. But there may be much more to it. I would pay good money to find out exactly what Uncle Ted McCarrick was sent to China to accomplish, and whether or not he was successful.

Let’s not forget that the trip to Mongolia also included an ecumenical make nice meeting with the animists and Muslims.
Or were the Catholics just a side show to that main show?

Bruised Optimist- to be fair, Catholicism makes up 0.04% of the Mongolian population. That’s less than 1400 Catholics occupying the size of Alaska sandwiched between China and Russia. I can understand The Pope playing a PR game so that the minute Catholic population is left alone. They are completely out numbered. The Chinese Ming Dynasty rid Mongolia of the 400k strong Catholics centuries ago. Mongolia has also endured Soviet rule ensuring there was no religion until the 1990’s, let alone Christianity. Which is why a single ordination is a big deal. God can grow His Faithful from nothing. It’s a very different set of standards we are able to judge the Pope by when he visits a country which is bordered by anti-Catholic nations and where the Catholic population is a minority.
