I kid you not, the last shopping trip to buy groceries and there were security tags on steaks of beef. The beef is local Australian beef, not bought in from abroad.
I’m no economist by any stretch, but this jump in cost of living is global. Its not a result of forces outside of government control. It’s not because of Putin. It may be because of Covid (marginally). And it’s certainly not about to get better in the foreseeable future.
(This may be the break I need:)
Honey you know that new bow I was thinking about for deer hunting… and that new fish finder….
David WS, a crisis is always an opportunity.
Local stores in my community have been putting frequently stolen items behind locked glass cases for a couple of years now. I was speaking to a local Walmart associate and she told me that particular store loses $2.5 million every year to theft. The driving force behind theft is drug addiction, not poverty. My brother worked a short stint as store security right after his military retirement, and apparently there are organized theft rings that sell the stolen items over the internet at a discount from store prices. Robin Hood must be a meth addict. Steaks have long been a target for theft even if it’s not amenable to internet fencing. I managed a restaurant out of college and we had to keep our walk-in cooler locked to prevent theft of steaks. Only managers had the keys and accompanied staff into the cooler. We had security cameras, but that didn’t deter them. They could just look down and avoid their face in the camera. In a cooks uniform with hat on a black and white camera it was impossible to make a positive identification. Alcohol for the bar of course was also kept under lock and key in its own liquor room. Personally, I prefer to save money by purchasing unfinished beef in bulk at a restaurant supply chain and completing the butchering into steaks and fillets myself.
I assume this is taking place in jurisdictions where prosecutors pursue cases according to the probability the voting citizens in the perpetrator’s household cast ballots for the Democratic Party. Los Angeles County (Ca), San Francisco County (Ca), Multnomah County (Ore), King County (Wa), Hennepin County (Minn), Cook County (ill), Philadelphia County (Pa), New York County (NY), Fulton County (Ga).
Have a gander at the occupational background of the Democrats on the Minneapolis and Seattle city councils. The whole attitude is that PLU will be protected by special police details or in gated communities. Ordinary working people will have their lives distorted and disfigured by hoodlums because that’s what deplorables desterve.
Up until now I’ve had simple locks on the hen house to protect “the ladies” from hungry critters… now I may need to place a keyed human-proof pad lock on the coop.
Tuesday November 8th is 211 days away from today.
It’s going to seem more like Christmas this year, that’s for sure.
