When this Pope speaks informally, especially to what he perceives to be a friendly audience, we soon learn what he thinks. Thus we learn from the above that he views EWTN as of the Devil. No accompaniment for them! The truth about the Pope is that he is a short fused Leftist. He has no tolerance for disagreement or criticism, and he confuses himself with the Church, and criticism of him with criticism of his Boss. Heckuva job Conclave of 2013, heckuva job.

Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 41 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
“Pope” Francis is not the Pope. He is a heretic, usurper and agent of the devil. Archbishop Vigano is our stand-in Pope. Listen to him.
Well in my ninth decade and never have I heard a pope so fail to talk about the key Catholic tenets of sin, suffering (the cross) or salvation. Is he a man of God, this tired voice keeps asking…
Gee, I wonder if this will finally dim the papolatry of EWTN’s Dr. Matthew “Nothing to See Here” Bunson, who Popesplains almost as creatively as that Jimmy guy with the scraggly red beard?
Naaaah.
Mother Angelica and the current pontificate. I just don’t see her sitting quietly regarding the comments and positions that have issued from the Chair of Peter.
She would always respect the Chair.
She would have great difficulty respecting the man.
That’s my opinion.
She would ask us to continue to pray for him. For his conversion. For his soul.
I base this off of her history with a certain Bishop who was a thorn in her side. God shall prevail.
btw….it wasn’t the millions of Vatican dollars that put a Catholic satellite into orbit to help in Evangelization in 1981.
It was an unknown nun.
A handful of nuns, a press stamping out fishing lures and two Italian businessmen who finally heard the word of God to be concerned about “my Father’s business.”
It’s a Truth.
When you put time, money and energy into Our Father’s affairs, He takes care of ours. I took the leap of Faith in 2001. Taking care of the elderly, the abandoned and lonely. The confused and absent minded.
That was twenty years ago and it was the greatest decision, equal only to my marriage to Mary Kathleen.
I never imagined that I would help both body and soul of my neighbors in the ways that Providence proceeded.
In the past year I was privileged to help facilitate the conversion of two Protestants to Holy Catholic Church
just prior to their deaths. This, from living out my faith and speaking of Apostolic succession. Did you know that a Catholic priest can forgive sins? I would have discussions with them about this great sacrament.
I would also let them know that if they did believe it they could receive the last rites from a Catholic priest.
The efforts put forth are not mine solely. They are inspired and supported by our Holy Catholic Church. EWTN isn’t perfect but neither are we. It has been a beautiful source of inspiration and conversion for thousands if not more.
Prayers for the Pope continue.
God forgives sin through his Holy priesthood. In each case I contacted the POA of the elderly person I ministered too. I let them know of our conversations. In each case they said yes. Bring in the priest.
This isn’t my work but His work.
Both protestants were able to confess their sins to the priest and receive absolution prior to death.
When Mary told Jesus that St. Joseph and she were looking for him for three days..his response was; “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house attending to his affairs.”
Retiring early and not sure what to do with your time?
Are we sure it’s EWTN?
Though EWTN has been refreshingly clear-eyed about the cluster this pontificate has been, Gloria TV takes a harder line yet.
Plus, it is more Europe-focused, multilingual and has clashed with the German hierarchy as well. Given how parochial he is, GTV is a more likely target.
Good point Dale. I would note that some of the usual suspects on the Catholic Left have been crowing about this, but Francis, who knows little about this country and cares less, may not have had EWTN in his verbal crosshairs.
Exactly.
Progressive Catholics aren’t remotely as smart as their collective megalomania tells them. And they are every bit as insular as they accuse others of being.
Whatever may be the TV channel Pope Francis was referring to, he really is very self-absorbed. A very sensitive and delicate man in the twilight of his sojourn among us mere mortals.
Good thing Arroyo hasn’t gone full Mother Angelica. That would give the Pope a real fit of the vapors!
Arroyo either crosses the line or comes unnecessarily close to it. But so does the pope. This shouldn’t be tough. This should be the easiest thing about being pope. Doctrine, discipline, appointments, those things are tough. Not trashing fellow Catholics is simple. Serving the servants of God.
And if EWTN does cross the line, then the pope can do something about it, make a direct response. Not this passive-aggressive stuff. Saying things to Slovakian Jesuits with, apparently, the press in attendance? No, you have the office, go on EWTN and lay down the law, or issue a bull, or do something. Or do nothing. Don’t do this sort-of-something.
crosses the line or comes unnecessarily close to it.
Tick tock. We’re now up to 260 hours. No clarification or qualifications forthcoming from the Bush Center. But they do want to urge you to ‘stand with’ Cuban dissidents, listen to their ‘portraits of American immigrants’, and enjoy their new cafe.
I never said there would be clarification, did I? And that’s not the topic of this thread, is it? If you have a viewpoint on the topic, or if you have a problem with my assessment of Arroyo, please contribute it.
You and I both stated our assessments of the Bush speech. Open communication is good. I don’t think I have anything extra to add.
I find Arroyo to take a stance of hostility toward the Holy Father, and I don’t think it’s good for the Faith. But I don’t watch his show much.

Your assessment has been discredited.

Funny dat.
I don’t remember the specifics, but if there’s been no clarification, I doubt that I have been discredited, unless my claim was that there would be a clarification.
Hostility? Bergoglio is the most insulting “christian” of all time. https://popefrancisbookofinsults.blogspot.com/2017/03/please-take-note-artistic-licence-has.html?m=1
He confuses any fleeting “thought” that passes his lips with a new article of “faith”.

Your claim was that we couldn’t evaluate his statement because it was ambiguous. He hasn’t taken the opportunity to correct the nearly universal impression of just to whom he was referring. Well, a spokesman did answer one question, but it put Bush farther in the whole. I really should not have to spell this out for you.
John, I meant it when I said that Francis seems to have the biggest trouble with simple Christian fraternity, which should be a simple task. I’d love to have a job with more than 260 examples of how to do it, especially when a third of them did such a good job that they were canonized. A good pope can rebuke people publicly, he can use the levers of office prudently to alleviate problems. Where’s the pope who complained like this? People in his current job have been murdered, have had entire countries rise up in slander and rebellion against them. There’s no reason we should have a 21st century contender for “whiniest pope”.
Raymond Arroyo is simply acting as an independent journalist. Like any large institution the Church hierarchy needs to be held to account by an independent free press. The Church hierarchy have a poor track record of holding themselves to account. The Pope has a track record of making vague, ambiguous statements lacking in clarity. As JOHN F. KENNEDY has noted the Pope also has a track record of insulting people. In the Bible there are many times when God has to send prophets to hold people to account for defective faith practices. For starters you can look at Christ’s woes in Matthew 23. The Church is in dire need of prophetic correction.
