Kirsten Powers on Liberal Tolerance

tolerant20liberals

Kirsten Powers, who is rapidly becoming my favorite liberal, casts her eye upon leftist tolerance and finds that it is an oxymoron:

Don’t bother trying to make sense of what beliefs are permitted and which ones will get you strung up in the town square. Our ideological overlords have created a minefield of inconsistency. While criticizing Islam is intolerant, insulting Christianity is sport. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is persona non grata at Brandeis University for attacking the prophet Mohammed. But Richard Dawkins describes the Old Testament God as “a misogynistic … sadomasochistic … malevolent bully” and the mob yawns. Bill Maher calls the same God a “psychotic mass murderer” and there are no boycott demands of the high-profile liberals who traffic his HBO show.

The self-serving capriciousness is crazy. In March, University of California-Santa Barbara women’s studies professor Mireille Miller-Young attacked a 16-year-old holding an anti-abortion sign in the campus’ “free speech zone” (formerly known as America). Though she was charged with theft, battery and vandalism, Miller-Young remains unrepentant and still has her job. But Mozilla’s Brendan Eich gave a private donation to an anti-gay marriage initiative six years ago and was ordered to recant his beliefs. When he wouldn’t, he was forced to resign from the company he helped found.

Got that? A college educator with the right opinions can attack a high school student and keep her job. A corporate executive with the wrong opinions loses his for making a campaign donation. Something is very wrong here.

Go here to USA Today to read the rest.  The comments to her article are unintentionally hilarious as leftist critics, without a scintilla of self-awareness, prove her right:

What a bunch of garbage.  Ms. Powers continues to play the religious martyr role.  She and her ilk for centuries have ruled society with a iron fist. So if you want to classify any period as the dark ages she might want to back it up a few years.   They got to call the shots as to what was “morally: right.  Well these people are finally being called out for monsters they really are.  I am a huge advocate of free speech but with free speech comes responsibilities.  All these people she cited are welcome to free speech in their homes and houses of worship but when they try to evangelize their beliefs in the public square they better be ready for the consequences.

This argument that not being accepting of intolerant  views is itself a form of intolerance is an argument only a child would take seriously.  If you are a conservative thinking this line of reasoning is a ‘gotcha’, I pity you.  Each one of the points listed falls apart like wet tissue when examined with the slightest bit of scrutiny.  The notion that ‘liberals’ encompasses a group coherent enough to have hypocrisy is ridiculous in the first place.

**************

I’m not quite sure why these simple minded, low IQ, homophobic, FOX zombies think that Gays HAVE to tolerate their haters!   That we HAVE to treat them with special care and consideration and that we HAVE to just take all their utter nonsense!  I’m glad we live in a country that IS hounding these morons and making their world uncomfortable!    No one should have to tolerate intolerance, besides they’re not going to jail, they have the right to say it, but they don’t have of respect!

************

One look at the comments explains every reason why conservative viewpoints and the conservatives themselves are being targeted. You wanna act like animals, expect to be treated as such. Not a single shred of intelligence is found amongst conservatives in 2014, so no wonder mainstream America treats them as outcasts.

To many contemporary liberals the only freedom they truly respect is the freedom to agree with them.

I hope everyone clicks on your link Paul Firsttruth. It is thought provoking and I think could be good for some of the talking heads.
I am glad Kirsten is Christian and I hope she reads some of the wonderful Catholics who have written about politics and religion in the last 300 years.

Oh, wait. How long ago was Robert Bellarmine? Make that 400 years.

The comments to her article were So full of anger! What does it take for these people to accept that not every single person is going to think the gay lifestyle is great.
With all the huge strides they have made, right around the world, since “After The Ball Is Over” you would think they could quit pushing so hard. What is the end goal after all! Most western nations, the UN mainline churches, most celebrities– all won over to the gay side. What more till they are satisfied?

“Moreover, his injurious manner of speaking cannot be approved, for he inveighs rather against the person of D. Sarda than against the latter’s supposed errors.” from the Sacred Congregation of the Index.
The liberals attack the person for their opinions, whereas the conservatives attack the error.

The above comment attacks conservatives for attacking gay behavior, for hating the sin. If conservatives practiced gay behavior their sin would be hated…equal Justice

Indeed, it all depends upon who is lynched and who does the lynching, not the nature of the offense.

Actually it’s about power. Who should wield it, and how.

I believe the Muslims call it Taqiyya.
