Follow JC Go

I wish I could say this was from The Babylon Bee, A Catholic Misfit or Eye of the Tiber, but no, it is a real story:

  • The Vatican has released a game called “Follow JC Go,” based on the augmented reality game “Pokémon Go.”
  • Rather than chasing Pikachu and Squirtle, the Vatican version involves collecting saints and other Biblical figures.
  • Once players “catch ’em all,” their spiritual squad becomes an “evangelization team” that follows Jesus together.
  • Players have to keep track of their avatars’ nutrition, hydration and “prayer count” by collecting special objects, saying prayers for the sick, and going into a church whenever they pass one.
  • The game is available for both iOS and Android, although only in Italy and Spain at the moment.

Go here to read the rest.  The Church is currently led by fools and knaves.

Not aware of the particulars of the game, but I’d bet it has a whole bunch of “get out of Hell free” cards by landing on any of the three: a “mercy” square, an “accommodate square”, or a “walk with” square. To be jailed you merely have to land on one of those “Rigid Catholic” squares.

Wondering if the backdrop for the game is done in rainbow?

My oldest boy said that the Catholic Church has been known to take extensive naps. I’d say this qualifies.

Oh, to be in touch with the times, isn’t it great? (sarc) And what’s the message we’re supposed to follow? “To be in the world but not of it.”

My first thought was, No, this isn’t going to work. Then I changed my mind–maybe there is something here. That thought lasted maybe 5 seconds, and I realized that all the people who are interested in the Saints, etc most certainly do NOT allow their children to have a Smartphone, much less play with one. Back to not going to work.
.
I asked my son who does have a Smartphone and does play (or has in the past) Pokemon. He gave me a weird look and said “Mom, no, Christian pop music is okay, but not Christian games like that.”
