The Shock of Recognition

I have reading glasses scattered all over McClarey Manor and the Law Mines.  Getting old isn’t all bad, but when it comes to eye sight it certainly is.

I cannot agree more: I just completed cataract surgery and now prescription glasses are a must: I too have readers scattered about, but being careless with hardware store Peepers is one thing; the ones we will most likely all need are too expensive to lose ! And yet the surgery is quite miraculous…. I feel most blessed !

Cataract surgery was more of a minus than a plus for me. I’ve worn glasses since I was six, and now my vision has improved to the point that I’ve left the house without realizing I wasn’t wearing them until I needed to read something. But the nice thing about my erstwhile 20/400 vision was the microscopic focus that made threading needles, examining details in photographs or reading fingerprints possible, and I really miss that.

I’m 60 and have been using store bought readers since my early 40s. My overall eyesight is good. Readers make small print easy to read.

Yes, it’s weird being the same age as old folk – a realisation when I turned 84 last month.

nearsighted, so i don’t need reading glasses, which is nice… but my years of using narrow distance glasses and cheating by looking underneath came to an end last year. i could no longer read the gauges in my car, now i wear progressives when driving. argh.

Cataract surgery has greatly helped my eyes. I was at the end of the line for what prescription eyeglasses could do for my vision. I estimate that the surgery reversed 20+ years of deteriorated eyesight in both eyes. Day and night difference. I do occasionally need reading glasses for reading small text. I really appreciate what the surgery has done for me.

I’m getting up there in years. I don’t feel old, but the calendar does not lie.

A magnifying glass at hand is a plus!
