St. Augustine of Hippo has my number.
In time for The March for Life:
“I am the Immaculate Conception.” the Blessed Virgin Mary told Bernadette Soubirous in 1858.
The Blessed Virgin Mary told us who we are. Man is conceived when the sperm fertilizes the ovum and the two become one. God creates an immortal human soul with free will, reason, sovereign personhood and unique capabilities. The only one of its kind in creation; along with billions and billions from Adam until the end of time.
Aristotle understood that a child born from an immature sperm or an over ripe sperm will be a girl. A child born of a perfectly mature sperm will be a boy.
Thomas Aquinas knew this. Although Aquinas believed as many still do that life began at quickening, when the child begins to move.
With an immortal soul filled with original innocence, the one celled sovereign person with fully informed consent may choose his course to his destiny. Once conceived the person may adore “their Creator” or think and enjoy his thoughts, or enjoy his implicit Baptism and his very life.
Nicola Tesla believed that thoughts could be photographed through the electrical impulses generated by man’s brain.
Working with The Right To Life, I was several times berated by individuals who believed as many believed centuries ago and until Cat Scans revealed the truth and scientists had to agree that the sperm fertilizes the ovum before implantation in the womb. These lost souls still believe that there is a microscopic human being in every sperm who is placed in the mother to be nurtured and nourished. Their anguish over the many lives lost in every sperm caused them great grief.
When two become one, the human person begins life. His body is formed in growth by his immortal soul. Without disease, the person will grow to birth and be a natural, happy baby bringing joy to all on earth and in heaven.
The immortal human soul is the source of life for all mankind.
Mine too Mary.
Perfect!
The perfect answer to “I can’t read Augustine, he’s too hard for me.”
Been doing City of God on audiobook since summer. I listen whenever I do home repair etc. There is a lot there, but none of it is inaccessible. You might have to endure Classical references to mythology that have little interest to you, but that is the main hurdle aside from length, and he is very episodic so that is no real impediment.

Read it cover to cover. I found it challenging but very worthwhile.
Coming from a saint who turned procrastination of repentance into an art form.
I listened to St. Augustine’s Confessions eleven times before I became intimate with the work.
