There is a reason the Italians haven’t had a Pope since John Paul I, 47 years in the rear view mirror.. Go here to read the story. Surprised this is getting out so quickly. I suspect there are a fair amount of sore losers among the Italian cardinals.
Conclave Watch: Pope Maker
- Donald R. McClarey
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
After 12 years of a heterodox word-salad Pontiff who couldn’t put two coherent doctrinally pure thoughts together in a single sentence, I am cautiously optimistic. We aren’t going to agree with everything Pope Leo XIV says and does, but what he says and does won’t be a mismash of purple koolaide dripping sentimentality, the constant ingratiation with liberal progressive ideology, and that stinking fetid narcissistic pretense at public acts of humility ever ready for the journalists’ camera shot.
Prayers for the Pope did the most.
John Paul I begs to differ on the identity of the last Italian pope!
Oops! Correct. Corrected. Poor John Paul I, he is so easy to overlook!
interesting article, thank for the link. Slowly but surely, the Europeans are losing their hold on power. I’ve been to Africa many times, and they a more comfortable with Americans than Europeans. It’s a natural development in the Church to have the English speaking counties to become the Pope makers.
Pope Leo need not to neglect Europe as hard a continent it is at the moment in terms of the Catholic Church. Yes concentrate on Africa, Asia and Latin America, but Europe is where our Catholic heritage began and the richness of Western civilisation lies. Too many Popes have neglected Europe.
So glad Parolin didn’t get it. Phew.
