PopeWatch: Stable

After eighteen days in the hospital it is telling that the most common term in regard to the Pope’s condition is that it is stable.  His doctors can prevent death when a crisis arises, but anything more than that in the way of improvement does not seem to be occurring.

I have seen this with family members – round the clock medical attention allowed for them to be “OK” (at best) and any letting up would require them to be put back on round the clock attention. Hospice became the result

Is it only a matter of time for hospice for the Pope, or will this become a matter of pride and putting his full trust in Man as opposed to God?

I think that what we’re looking at is hospice already. At least they’re not likely to terminate life sustaining medical treatment. As someone fairly intimately familiar with hospice, this is often an excuse to cut off treatment that is keeping people alive and has to be resisted.

My dad on life support was stable for eight years.
