Now THAT would be fun! We need to start a campaign. Strickland on the Via Sallustiana!
It would be a source of great justice that Bishop Strickland becomes the ambassador of the United States to the Vatican. However, Bishop Strickland is a man of honor, integrity, and principle; his first duty is to God and His Holy Church, so he would decline to represent the secular interests of the United States at the Vatican no matter how badly the Pope and the Vatican itself treat him. Besides, he would see through the appointment to the reason for it – sending a message of revenge and retaliation to Jorge the Heretic – and he would decline. That is not Bishop Strickland’s style.
But Lord Jesus, please may things be otherwise!
I would nominate either the judicial candidate that was almost rejected because he belonged to the Knights of Columbus or the pro-lifer from PA that was arrested in front of his kids by a SWAT team. Or another faithful Catholic who suffered outright persecution from the Biden Administration and/or the Pope Francis Pontificate.
Elaine Krewer…great picks!
I agree with @Elaine!
Maybe just make him ambassador to Italy. Close enough to chafe but not directly in opposition.
Truly though, I do not think appointing clergy to secular posts is ideal, especially in a republic, especially in a republic that is religiously diverse, especially especially in a republic that has a strong atheist lobby.
The schismatic sedevacantist?
Neither. Rather one of the few honest Bishops we have.
Maybe Lan was thinking of AB Vigano … who would also be an excellent choice, given his previous diplomatic experience 🙂
