World War II will soon slip from living memory except for a handful of people who have surpassed the century mark. An eighteen year old enlistee in 1945 is now 98. World War II is so vast that we can only grasp parts of it, and once our living links to that War have fallen silent, inevitably our perception of that War will shift and change, colored by current preoccupations completely foreign to that War. Inevitable but sad, especially to us who knew World War II veterans when they were relatively young men. Time inevitably moves on, but often times we are the poorer for it.
Without a doubt….these men of valor we’re of the greatest generation ever to walk the earth.
Tacitus said; Where there is valor there is hope.
The courage, determination and grit of our WWII veterans gave US hope. With their blood they extended freedom.
Today? Men of valor or men of vanity?
God help us.
It’s all about choices isn’t it?
Choose wisely…..

At least those buried at sea can’t have their graves desecrated by the next BLM style set of hoodlums…
I missed out on the WWII vet experience. On the one side, he was excepted from service for a vital industry, on the other side he was coast guard and never even saw a sign of a u-boat. But at least I had the benefit of the old sailor’s company 🥲
@Philip –> Ubi virtus, ibi spes.
If you ever have the chance I highly recommend the National World War 2 Museum in New Orleans.
On Netflix: “World War II in HD” narrated by Gary Sinis. Excellent coverage from newly released Japanese, German and American films and records.
Hirohito’s and Hitler’s wars come home to them. There was never an empty pew in church.
Death, war, famine and pestilence. When will people start to listen to God?
LQC.
Very good. ty.
My brother and I were reminiscing yesterday, while sharing a deer blind during a wild lake effect snow squall in Northern Michigan. Remembering hunts from decades past. He quoted an early philosopher, can’t recall his name at the moment, who said; If all men were virtuous there would be no need for valor.
Sounds like heaven to me.
And as its memory fades, the generation not tempered by it will repeat the same mistakes. We are witnessing the beginnings of the cycle already.
WK, I’ve been perplexed for some time how someone can condemn the Holocaust, …yet vigorously promote abortion. Both stem from a large group of being being classified as “inconvenient”, therefore “inhuman”.
The only difference I see is the age of the victim.
