Mad Anthony Wayne

Something for the weekend.  Mad Anthony Wayne.  Wealthy businessman Anthony Wayne would now be unknown to history but for the Revolution. In that conflict he earned the nickname “Mad Anthony” and became one of Washington’s ablest combat generals. At the request of President George Washington he came out of retirement and led the infant United States Army to victory in the Northwest Indian War, the major military conflict of Washington’s two terms in office. Batman’s secret identity of Bruce Wayne was created by taking the names of Robert the Bruce and Anthony Wayne. In the DC comics Mad Anthony Wayne is an ancestor of Bruce Wayne and “stately” Wayne Manor was originally built by Anthony Wayne.

Of course such an All-American hero is a target of the cancel culture.  My friend Jay Anderson gives us the details:

As long as the government starts dismantling all American Indian land ownership treaties and all casinos on that property, then I am perfectly fine with their move to rename public parks.
Until that happens…go fly a kite

Before they wish to remove the name of a northern Indiana city, Fort Wayne, maybe they should be reminded of a text from St. Pope JP II, shared in 1987;
The early encounter between your traditional cultures and the European way of life was an event of such significance and change that it profoundly influences your collective life even today. That encounter was a harsh and painful reality for your peoples. The cultural oppression, the injustices, the disruption of your life and of your traditional societies must be acknowledged. At the same time, in order to be objective, history must record the deeply positive aspects of your people’s encounter with the culture that came from Europe. Among these positive aspects I wish to recall the work of the many missionaries who strenuously defended the rights of the original inhabitants of this land. They established missions throughout this southwestern part of the United States. They worked to improve living conditions and set up educational systems, learning your languages in order to do so. Above all, they proclaimed the Good News of salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ, an essential part of which is that all men and women are equally children of God and must be respected and loved as such. This gospel of Jesus Christ is today, and will remain forever, the greatest pride and possession of your people. (September 14, 1987)

Of course, Wayne must be cancelled. We can’t celebrate a man who eradicated savagery in an age when savagery is making a come back, aided by compassionate liberals, who advance evil in the name of diversity.

When I saw the headline of this post I was going to post about the Batman connection. Then I saw that you already were aware. I have that issue btw.

I think that explains a lot of what we’re seeing.
