My attitude to Trump has always been ambiguous. It took me until September of 2016 to back him and I did so purely on his pledge to appoint pro-life judges. He kept that pledge and the three judges he appointed to the Supreme Court dispatched Roe to the nether regions, a monumental achievement. I loved most of his policies that helped create the best economy of my life time. I was frustrated by his inability to get control of the Federal bureaucracy and his failure to create a winning team in his cabinet and other top level appointments. I think his post election moves were congealed folly, although I agree with him that the election was stolen. The lawfare against him would be so much less effective if he hadn’t given it a helping hand, especially his foolish fight over the documents he took with him.
Having said all that, the man is a political colossus, and the other GOP candidates are pygmies in comparison. Barring his death, the Republicans will win or lose with Trump in 2024.
I think Trump also has the good fortune to run against completely unlikable imbeciles, Ron DeSantis being among the most prominent. DeSantis went from being arguably the best governor in the country to being one of the dumbest politicians to ever run for president overnight. If things go the way they are now, DeSantis will be another example of my long held belief that most hype trains derail.
A conservative rafio host this evening announced Trump had received a death threat and observed that none of the media had not picked up the story. Too busy covering the Empathizer in Chief ‘s joke of a visit to Maui.
Tucker’s interview with President Trump was fascinating. I was surprised at a few of Tucker’s questions— asking Trump whether he thought Epstein committed suicide or was murdered, whether Trump thought America was headed for a civil war, whether Trump agreed that the next step for the left was to turn to violence since impeachments and indictments are failing— and Trump sensibly sidestepped all of those.
The night’s Republican debate was nothing more than a group audition for the VP slot, because no one on that dais stands a chance of taking the nomination from 45 as long as he’s running.
Oops double negative. So far no major news outlet picked up the Trump assassination threat. Re the debate only saw a bit of it. Liked Vivak, de Santis, the gov of N Dakota. Chris Christie is a spoiler and Pence has no future in politics.
I wanted him to discuss the vaccine other than saying he didn’t mandate it.
The fact that he does what he says he’s going to do and helps the poorest by easing pain, like gas prices (not pushing electric cars that the grid can’t hold anyway), he would always be elected.
I’m of the opinion that mandatory retirement for public officials at age 76 should be the order of the day, with those older than that found only on small town municipal councils and school boards. For that reason, I’d be pleased if Mr. Trump would stand down. (Another problem is that he proved to be very erratic in personnel matters). I’ll cast my ballot for whomever the Republicans nominate, though Christie or Hutchenson would be a meal of Brussels sprouts.
As far as I can see, the congressional Republican caucus is largely made up of donor servants who are pretending the abuses we see aren’t happening.
Well said, Don. Congrats. Trump is a genius in so many ways.
More like they are after him, and he keeps throwing us up in the way to protect him.
His attacks on DeSantis for signing the anti-abortion legislation in Florida have made him an unacceptable choice for me.
Ronald Reagan’s already served his two terms, and is also dead. Until another one of him comes ’round, I’ll hold my nose and vote for whoever runs against the Corporatists. This would include the odd sack of wet mice should such survive the primaries.
More like they are after him, and he keeps throwing us up in the way to protect him.
Trump could have lived out his life quite pleasantly as a billionaire, a popular cultural figure. Entering into politics has cost him a lot of grief. He clearly has strong beliefs that are motivating him, and I agree with him that he is hated by the Left because they had convinced themselves that there was never going to be another Republican president after Bush the younger.
CAM, hadn’t heard that. But I have be worried for Trump’s safety, particularly today. Prayed that he arrive and depart from that jail TODAY in safety.
