Why?

Becoming a priest means great sacrifices.  Few are going to do it in the name of Catholicism Lite.  Heterodoxy is always a road outside the Church.  When the Church is powerful some heterodox will conceal their beliefs in order to gain power and wealth.  In a time of a persecuted only the true believes tend to come forward.

Who chooses seminarians? You know, like, who decides who makes the cut?
Who chooses bishops? You know, like, who decides who makes the cut…and what, pray tell, are the qualifications required? Hmmm.

Depends on the country and diocese in that country. They used to do a screening process through a psychologist to determine if they were fit to enter the Seminary in Sydney- this I was told by the person who screened them- but that was going back 15 years ago so I don’t know what the process is today. One family friends son who was ordained a Deacon has been given n
seminary for over 7 years (thanks to to Bishop
Vincent Long)- his peers already have graduated to Priests. He came from a very devout Catholic Coptic family and attended an Opus Dei school. He assisted in the Corpus Christi Mass last year and his reverence is beautiful. In Sydney, new recruits who I’m aware of are coming from Opus Dei, Eastern Rites or large families from conservative parishes. Very few are Anglo-white young men. Many are from traditional ethnic families. That’s the trend, and so naturally these young men will not be following the NuChurch brand, because it’s the traditional and reverent environment which they were raised in which attracted them to the Priesthood in the first place. Praise God. I think the Father James Martins of the Church will eventually fade away into oblivion thanks
To “survival of the fittest”- they are not the ones inspiring new Seminarians.
