T SHAW.
He is incredible. I truly appreciate his delivery, substance and humor. A genuine article. What a charge he would be leading if he was alive today. Thanks for bringing Sheen up.
One of my favorites.
Philip,
I have been blessed in many ways and times in my life.
One was meeting Bishop Sheen one evening in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, about 65 years ago. I was eight years old. My mother took us four little boys [imagine going by subway from the Bronx] and we met her widowed mother [working in midtown Manhattan] after work. She took us to Radio City to see Snow White [I think]. After the movie, of course [I do it now if I’m in midtown Manhattan], we made a visit to the Cathedral. My youngest brother, John [RIP], was joyfully mischievous and ‘missing among the pews’ and Mom and Nana were quietly calling “John.” Bishop Sheen came and greeted them and told them his mother called him John. Of course, Mom and Nana were awed in his presence. We all kissed his ring.
Another time [1979], I saw [from across the street] Pope St. John Paul II walking with Cardinal Cook outside the Cathedral.
Live Jesus in our hearts. Forever.
