Justice Sotomayor: “Justice Thomas is the one justice in the building that literally knows every employee’s name, every one of them… He is a man who cares deeply about the court as an institution, about the people who work there.”

A repeat of the Ginsburg and Scalia friendship? In any case the remarks, especially before a liberal group, are refreshingly welcome and do Justice Sotomayor a great deal of credit. Saint Paul puts it well:
[1] If I speak with the tongues of men, and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. [2] And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries, and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. [3] And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
1 Corinthians 13: 1-3
In strife over the issues of the day it is all too easy to give way to hating our opponents. It is understandable and it is wrong. Hate always burns out those it inhabits. There is much wisdom in the trite phrase love the sinner and hate the sin. It is hard to follow, especially for me I must say, but when we succeed in doing this very hard thing, we are following in the footsteps of Christ.
Justice Thomas must be really awesome in person.
