Guess there aren’t many Chinese Restaurants in Rome..
Why does central Italy have a problem with wild boars?
Decreased hunting in recent decades. Swine multiply rapidly and unless they are regularly culled their populations explode.
I’ve heard it said about the chickens coming back to roost, but the boars coming back to this particular pontificate doesn’t surprise me one iota.
Maybe they’re possessed and are looking for a good drop zone.[?]
A similar problem exists in California, especially near toney Carmel and Monterey, where European boar stocks were imported for gentlemen hunting clubs in the 1920’s, and which quickly increased in numbers and have become a nuisance to landowners’ estates in the Carmel River Valley and in heavily agricultural nearby Salinas Valley. The boars also defecate of course and have myriad e.coli strains which they distribute generously as they feed; and they are very powerful, often digging under or uprooting fences to keep them from the lettuce and vegetable crops.
A similar problem exists in Southern Arizona south of Tucson: a little while back while attending a conference at an upscale resort there, while approaching the main buildings, droves of wild boar could be seen rooting through the resort gardens at 3pm in the afternoon. Since they are generally nocturnal creatures, if they are out in the daylight..Well, maybe a walk around the gardens is not wise at this time..

I wonder if they could auction sport hunting permits to firms organizing charter parties from abroad if Italians are not applying for licenses. This seems quite irregular.
That would make sense Art. Snowflication of societies, combined with green religion and animal rights crazies, are raising problems now that our more rational ancestors would have laughed at.
Snowflication of societies
Elderly people are IMO ambulatory to a surprising degree if one’s frame of reference is the America of 1970 (bar those who have ruined their health by overeating).
Our son in SW Louisiana has shot four or five of the critters in his and his neighbors’ fields.
One case, he was set up with a night vision scope and camera capability and recorded the kill.
Pigs are intelligent and prolific.
On eastern LI, they have a deer problem. One airport has a program where they have select civilians authorized to nuisance hunt deer on the airfield edges.
The limousine liberals hate it whenever a deer crashes into their Mercedes.
The return of the Borgias?
Hey, by some standards, it would be an improvement.
