Cupich is beyond retirement age. The Pope could remove him at any time. I assume he keeps him in place because he approves of what he is doing.  Presumably this is a vengeance move on the part of Cupich, to get back at pro-life critics who raised such a storm at his attempt to give a Catholic award to Senator Richard Durbin (D.Hell), an apostate pro-lifer and fervent champion of abortion, that it was declined by Durbin after the Pope was asked uncomfortable questions about it, although the Pope did try to defend the award. Who knows, perhaps this is also a vengeance move by Pope Bob, God help us. After all, Francis of Cursed Memory appointed Sachs to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, and Pope Bob seems dedicated to following in the hoof prints of his predecessor.
