Of course the little girl would have been replaced with my little Brother, and he and I would be jostling each other. My Mom’s hair would have been fiery red, but I recall with fondness the Mass hats she wore. My Protestant Dad would occasionally come to Mass, and each time he wore a suit, while my Brother and I wore sports jackets and ties. A more civilized time.

Love the image and analogy of your family Donald.
Not sure if you have them in US, but reminds me of the illustrations in the Golden Books stories. Dad in his favourite chair reading the paper. Mum sorting the house. Kid playing outside in open space or inside near the fire.
It’s called “life without devices (or phones)”.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the constant exposure to stimuli through SM and devices (TV, phones, iPads) has robbed our society of that kind of life. Yes, technology has its afbatntages but it comes at a cost. Unfortunately.
They’d have a collective conniption if they saw a pic of one of our young, Catholic families in our parish: Mom. Dad, and eight boys and girls all under age 12 years.
