Best Wars

News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:

A lot of people say war is bad and have condemned it ever since war was first invented by Bob War, but some wars have been pretty good — great even. Here are some of the best wars of all time — the cream of the crop of wars.

Revolutionary War: While you want to avoid war as much as possible, those guys tried to make us pay taxes. The Revolutionary War stopped us from paying taxes for good.

The War on Drugs: The war on drugs is great because it’s still going, like a really good TV show going into its 32nd season.

World War III on January 6, 2021: A brutal and devastating war on the Capitol when a few tourists walked around and took pictures.

Star Wars: The universe was much more peaceful after getting rid of the threat of Alderaan.

Civil War: Everyone loved this war so much that even the losers got a bunch of statues. Plus, it gives your uncle something to watch on the History Channel.

World War II: One of the few sequels considered better than the original, like Toy Story 2 or Empire Strikes Back.

The War of Jenkins’ Ear: We don’t know anything about this one but it sounds awesome.

War on Women: War is so much better when you’re waging it against women. We hope we win this one so we can oppress women and turn the nation into The Handmaid’s Tale!

The Punic Wars: Someone had to stop those Punics. Can you imagine us being ruled by a bunch of Punics? You can’t.

They’re right. We couldn’t have left the Punics in charge!

Speaking of the Jan. 6 WWIII, we need to re-elect Trump in 2024 so he can award The Q Anon Shaman the Medal of Honor he so richly deserves.

Quite often TAC posts force me to research a thread, which is a good thing. Among published writing of Eugene Sledge is a book titled China Marine. Mainland China after Peleliu was Sledge’s last duty station. He describes the groups relief about Japan’s capitulation after the atomic bombings. Their orders were to have invaded Tokyo a sure suicide mission. The book also details his difficult adjustment to civilian stateside life. He credits his parents, his wife and his brothers with help in his healing. The WWII museum in San Franciso is small, but well done. Japanese incursions started way before Dec 7, 1941but I don’t recall mention of an on the ground USMC presence. Sledge’ book made me aware that the China Marines were in mainland China after WWII. My husband’s Uncle Dick was a China marine attached to a gun boat in the 1930s. According to family lore he and a sailor were tasked with hunting ducks to feed the crew. However they detoured into off limits town and hit a few bars. Back in time for dinner they presented the ducks. The birds were full of buckshot, but cooked and glazed, a dead giveaway that they had been in town not hunting in river wetlands. His son, a Viet-Nam marine, is the family historian. I’ll have to ask if his father left a diary or letters mentioning anything else about China duty.

CAM,

This August, let’s keep that in mind [estimated one million US casualties in Japan invasion] for the catholic left’s annual detractions on America for Hiroshima/Nagasaki.

T. Shaw, I will. The argument against bombing always is raised around the August 6th date. Churchill mentioned the additional potential casualties of several hundred thousand Commonwealth troops if there were an invasion of the Japanese mainland.
