Saint Gudula, patroness of Brussels, is usually depicted with a lantern. A legend tells that the Saint was going to a Church to pray before dawn, and a demon blew out the light in the lantern which she carried to keep her from her destination. The Saint prayed for heavenly aid, and God sent an angel to relight her lantern.
