Still maintain.., The Lord asked Benedict to step down. I have no proof except Francis’ pontificates Oopportune self implosion. Kidney stones have a way of waking a Body up.

Chastisements come in many forms.
When I read about the lightning strike hitting Jansa Gora prior to the protestants / Sweden hitting Poland, the author noted that the lightning strike and fire was a prelude to the persecutions to come. A chastisement of sorts.

Maybe too the 2013 lightning strike on the dome of St. Peters. (?)

I’m wondering aloud.

The good news is that the one leaders reign is over.
The bad news is that we will always have strife within our Holy Church and within our families….yet merit lies within our means to counter the effects through prayer and sacrifice. Nothing is lost to those who see value in sufferings.

(Not that I wish them on others, and ask God to be light with mine.)

Come what may, we march ahead.

That’s one of my favourite Pope Benedict XVI quotes. It gets me through the times when I look around and everyone is (or appears) trouble free and I ask myself “God, are you ever going to give me any reprieve in this Vale of Tears?” *sigh* I guess it reminds me what it means to take up my cross. Ps. Today was a tough day mentally.

Philip, the Deluge indirectly led to the downfall of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Swedes laid waste to Poland in a way that few nations had ever been plundered. The. Germans and Russians learned from the Swedes.

He served 8 years, about average for the office. I begrudge him nothing.

Say what you will about Benedict XVI’s abdication of the papacy, he has contributed more greatness to the Church than any of us will ever come close to!

“-And done more damage to the Church by leading to the reign of Francis the Worst than any us will come close to.”

Given the hard left bent of the College of Cardinals, a Francis type was inevitable.

If I understand correctly, Pope Emiritus is an innovation similar to Bishop Emiritus. Both are close cousins to the ageist prohibition on older cardinals voting at conclave.
In what I consider wiser times, men served out the term, with assistants and auxiliaries if necessary.
