Pronouns in an email signature does say a lot about a person, but not their gender -that’a almost always easily deduced from their first name.
This is true. Unfortunately. Sometimes for the sake of career progression (or just job preservation) one has to hold one’s tongue and/or pick your battles. Or even hide your beliefs. Even if you are self employed, the fair work legislation (where we are from) prevent you from discriminating against certain individuals. Even if they don’t fit the company culture. As a good employment lawyer told us, do not ever tell a potential employee that they weren’t hired because of anything other than qualifications. Even though the system is not fair if it were a left-leaning employer hiring a conservative employee. The system isn’t “fair” in fair work
Sure … 88% are quasi-sane but support the remaining 12% who are militant ideologues by their silence and inaction.
Is Islam any different?
I worked in an organization that only flirted with DEI, but we never got too thick into it. If you didn’t like to work, you could join a committee. The committee was mostly black, wildly disproportionately. A few white guys. White women endorsed it but didn’t get involved. Asians, Hispanics, and gays had no interest.
I remember they once sponsored a World Foods lunch on Ash Wednesday.
A few pieces of my job looked vaguely pro-diversity if you didn’t understand them, and that provided enough cover for me, I guess. The organization pulled out of it before things got too mandatory. It must have been scary for the younger staff, particularly. Fortunately, we were just too practical to self-inflict a lot of damage.
To keep the job, you don’t contradict the boss.
To get the degree, you don’t poke the morally bankrupt leftist who will find a way to maim your GPA if you disagree with them.
Ain’t right, but that’s where we are.
Producing chestless men and women in the words of CS Lewis.
I don’t know about chestless, but it’s people saying things without even bothering to check if they believe them. Nearly everything in our society encourages it, from sarcasm to conspiracy theories to your beloved profession.
Also, if you do A work, you’ll get at least a B. Just don’t put them in a position where they could look reasonable if they undermine you. Faculty advisor, thesis team, any important references.
The young are too other-directed.
