Pope Leo XIV smiles all of the time. Monday and Tuesday, July 28, and 29, Pope Leo celebrated Digital Missionary Days.

***A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault.*** – St. John Henry Newman

There is an epidemic of stagnant men who fall into the above truth. Who was it? Saint Nike who said; “Just Do It.”

Pope Leo the XIV. Just do it. Lift those restrictions and let’s grow the Church.

One of my favorite Saints. After St Thomas More.

[btw ….I’m not trying to raise a Goddess to Saintly status. Nike is and always will be a footstool.]

Worry not, Philip!
I am confident that you could search all of Greater Greece and not find a Temple of Nike inscribed “Just Do It” 🙂

Though, the *modern corporation* is no saint either…

I have great respect for the saint…but I see a problem. Protestants and probably Orthodox have this idea that he invented doctrinal development. I think emphasizing Newman has a downside. We should be talking about the Church’s consistent view of development.

I liken it to how the local priests during the Albigensian heresy didn’t know enough theology to oppose them effectively, and the heretics wouldn’t even listen to the erudite abbots and bishops in fancy robes because part of the Albigensian heresy was a denouncement of wealth. Fortunately a Spanish priest wandered through all this and came up with the idea of an educated mendicant order. Sometimes the right message needs the right messenger.

That said, I love St. Philip Neri, and the idea that his order has contributed two Doctors to the Church is wonderful.

I copy that, TBO. 😃

“Though, the *modern corporation* is no saint either.”

I saw a case in point not long ago –

There was a reporter who was interviewing the CEO of a very large Fortune 500 Insurance company. The firm denied a $1,400 claim that was to benefit a single parent mother with 4 children. The particulars of the denial were soft.
( going from memory here)

The reporter asked the man;
“Your corporation had a stellar year 2024. The financials show that you personally earned a 28 million dollar bonus For The Year.
Congratulations. Please tell me why a policyholder of yours, who makes $28,000 a year, was denied a claim that would of helped her manage her household.”

Of course without knowing the claim he was at a loss for words.

The reporter quipped;
“It’s just business isn’t it!”

smh

I do realize that shareholders have to be protected from bad business decisions, but sometimes it seems that it has gotten to a point that goes beyond greed.

I love St Philip Neri, too.
But I don’t think there are any Oratorians besides Newman who are Doctors of the Church.

Would like to see St. Louis Marie de Monfort also declared a Doctor of the Church. His writings have influenced countless souls and encouraged a great devotion to Our Lady and her Son, Jesus Christ.

I could never complain about St. John Henry Newman being made a Doctor. I mean, who could? But every Pope for the last 100 years, save JPI, has added his favorite to the list.

For once, I’d like a Pope to just lead the Church rather than leave his mark on it.
