Burn of the Day

Germans and freedom have often not been on speaking terms.  Having one of them attempting to lecture Americans on rights is an exercise in absurdity.

I suspect if you did an inventory, you’d discover the abuses of German governments in our time have their analogue in the general run of occidental countries. What irks me about the ‘human rights’ lobby is that they ignore these sorts of abuses.

A few years back car pooling to work, a friend from the Middle East saw a fillet knife in the trunk of my car and had a fit “What is that?!” he said!
“It’s a fillet knife for Striped Bass..”, I said, “it’s early fall, the fish are migrating and sometimes I fish after work”, somewhat baffled by his reaction.

I suspect it’s the same with firearms in many cultures.
Americans aren’t only free, a majority of us still don’t associate inanimate objects for crime. The Left is trying always to reverse both of those things.

There’s also a certain Virtue Signaling that occurs in European countries, with “we don’t have firearms…”. Yeah, how’s that working out for you? Now that you can be arrested for saying something on social media.

David WS-

Yes it IS the same in many cultures. Sadly, blue states have become such cultures. Spent a lot of time in the Northeast. There would be the same shock and discomfort if a deer rifle were in the trunk. It would probably be accompanied by a mental note by the observer that I was “one of those”.

Blue and Red states really are different cultures, and becoming more so with every law they pass.

Agree there are different cultures across blue vs red states, but those attitudes will vary across regions of a given state. Rural areas tend to be red, and City blue.
Rural areas of Massachusetts are keen on deer hunting, making suburban areas more populated with deer. And that’s fine for those that deer hunt in suburban areas.
Archery, of course.

The German never asked the question: “Why did he need to be out there with a gun?”
The answer: “Because the authorities responsible to maintain order and suppress rioting kept theirs in holsters for Progressive political reasons.”
In the 80s and 90s German police with their flexible steel batons were a terror to the “lager louts” who would crash and trash World Cup events.

I agree with the assessment even across states. I lived in the Beltway hellhole for a long time, and now on the Eastern Shore of MD, we have the ONE Republican congressman of the MD delegation, Andy Harris, and a lot of my students hunt. It’s refreshing.

Sadly, I have crossed paths with far too many, even in a red State, who seem to agree with Sidney W. …Many resided in (blue-leaning) cities in the red State. Even so, …
*sigh* Forty years ago, I might have agreed with Sidney W too. I would have assumed that we had no need for anyone to carry a fire-ram of any sort, that we no longer lived in the Old West, that we had become more civilized. …I have long been forced to conclude that, however provocative some may consider it, we still have need for the Second Amendment.
Everywhere.

I like that TAC is a 1st and 2nd amendment site where I can post my opinion without Kurt Schlichter asking me about it first

There’s a reason we are not speaking German today. Hitler and the Nazis did not take away our guns. Guy, Texas
