Synod Watch: Women Deacons Off the Table?

The lunacy to ordain women continues at the Synod.

Most recently at the Synod on Synodality, the topic of ordaining women to the office of the diaconate and priesthood has been brought up once again, despite the topic not being up for formal discussion.  Sister Mary Theresa Barron, expressed to the assembly her feeling that, “some women do sense a call to priesthood or diaconate.”  Sr. Mary added, “I think we have to look at the question very much from … the Spirit. ‘Is the Spirit calling women?’  This comes after several ill fated attempts by progressive groups in the Church, that are sympathetic to the idea of women clergy, to gain the attention of the Holy Father.

Nothing says “I want to be ordained” like interrupting the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to push your political agenda.

Something we hear all the time from people who advocate for women clergy is that we have to “listen to the Spirit” and be “open to the Spirit”.  The original Synod handbook from 2021 reiterates this idea saying, “Synodal listening is oriented towards discernment. … We listen to each other, to our faith tradition, and to the signs of the times in order to discern what God is saying to all of us.”  What exactly are we supposed to be listening to in terms of women priests?  The Holy Father has been crystal clear with the synod that there is no possibility for women clergy.  On 60 minutes, the question was brought to the Holy Father on if a young girl will ever have an opportunity to be a clergy member in the Church.

“No.”

Church teaching on the matter is clear.  In an interview published in America Magazine, the Pope explained why the Church believes women are not capable of ordination.

“And why can a woman not enter ordained ministry? It is because the Petrine principle has no place for that,” the Pope said.

The Petrine principle shows that Christ chose men to complete His ministry.  It is as simple as that.  The Church is the bride of Christ, so only a man could stand in persona Christi.  A woman is incapable of standing in persona Christi because they could not be the spouse of the Church.

Venerable Fulton Sheen perfectly summarizes this concept when asked of the possibility of women priests.

Sheen expresses how God spoke through the prophet saying, “Israel, thou art My Spouse”.  The Church is the bride of Christ and cannot be the bride of a woman.  It is not a question of “civil rights”, as Sheen expresses, it is a question of legitimacy. The Pope reiterates this fact saying, “The Church is woman. The Church is a spouse. Therefore, the dignity of women is mirrored in this way.”  The doctrine is not as ugly as many liberal bishops would lead people to believe.  The femininity of women and their role in the Church is something beautiful and not something to be disregarded.

If “listening to the Spirit” means being in open contradiction of the Pope and Church doctrine, then maybe we are not listening properly.

A Spirit was speaking too and through Margaret Sanger, but was it a worthy spirit?

HUMILITY be thy spirit dear woman. Until then please serve God as best you can by imitating the greatest woman who ever lived, in complete obedience and humility.
Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us.

Sadly, the excellent theological explanation outlined here is all but lost on the generations of Catholics who have been taught from childhood that the Church is a social welfare NGO, rather than the Bride of Christ. To them, the Sacrament of Holy Orders is just a job qualification.

*Rant alert:*

With all due respect, I read the heading and skipped straight to the comments. I’m not going to waste my time reading what I already know. Females cannot be ordained. Period. There should be no discussion entertained. Why are we still having to argue the point against female priest? Why? 😡

As I tell my kids – don’t engage. Same with discussions on female priests. Don’t engage. *They* want a reaction out of you so they can keep blabbing on about it, wait for you to say something non-PC and then pounce.

Christ also chose only ethnic Jews to minister. Does that mean gentiles shouldn’t be ordained?

John, yours is an excellent question, and one which was asked and answered early in the Church’s life: “No”.

If Christ wanted to ordain women He would have ordained Mary. Of course that would have been a demotion for the Queen of Heaven. He had plenty of female disciples to choose from if such had been His will.

Why can’t they bring themselves to refer to this “spirit” as the Holy Spirit? Not a mere ghost but the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.
And explain how the Holy Spirit Who has Guided the Church for 2024 years suddenly needs correction????

Because it’s false. And if they were to do so what they say would immediately be recognized as false.

I like that in my scroll, Saint John Henry Newman is pointing up at this article, as if to say, “this is why I wrote about genuine developments versus corruptions”.

I stepped away from helping with RCIA because of this agenda being pushed by the Deacon and his wife. I tried to speak up but to no avail. When the Holy Spirit was referred to as She, I asked, ” How can two females conceive a child together?” Dead silence from the class, then someone said, “Yeah, I never thought of that!” Constantly hearing comments like ” ordination is only open to men,FOR NOW ” The debunked urban legend of Pope Joan presented as fact and an example of transgenderism. ( I asked that, if true, wasn’t it disturbing that the only example of a female pope was a person who lied and cheated into the office? ) This level of catechesis is going on all over the world. Those of us who object are painted as reactionary cranks. I’m sure they were relieved that I stopped helping. And yet there’s supposedly a great need for catechists. Hah.

Icefalcon-

I feel your frustration.

Just how many DREs are selling squishy heresy as Catholic Catechism… 🤔

Yeah so, like, the Woodstock era nuns and their camp followers will never cease their futile annoying behavior until they are six feet under. Bet on it.
