Great Moments in Cinema: It’s Entirely Innocent I Am

Errol Flynn made himself an overnight star with his mesmerizing performance as Peter Blood in Captain Blood (1935).  Ostensibly a Pirate movie, Captain Blood is actually a compelling look at that Century of Iron, the Seventeenth Century, in England and the Caribbean.  Above we see an educated man futilely attempting to make his way through the completely opaque legal system of the day during the Bloody Assizes, conducted by Lord Chief Justice George Jeffreys, which followed the crushing of Monmouth’s Rebellion against his uncle James II in 1685.  A treat for historians and anyone who loves an exciting and literate film.
