Some things never change. Communists attacking the Catholic Church is one of them. On July 18th, 1936, two days after the start of the Spanish Civil War, a group of young revolutionaries broke into the studios of Antoni GaudÃ, smashed his models, and burned the architectural drawings. They wanted to make sure La Sagrada Familia never came to fruition. Since Gaudi was no longer alive the only options were to abandon the project or try to reassemble the smashed pieces. Imagine trying to do a 10,000 piece three dimensional puzzle with no picture. Miraculously they pulled it off.
Luv the story, loathe Communism, but that hyper-decorated design is atrocious. When the frosting becomes more important than the cake, we’ve lost it.
Visited the site once. The inside is much like the outside. To me it looks like a giant sand castle.
I studied this in grade 11 art and fell instantly in awe of this building. One of my absolute favourite Churches. The architecture is genius. The detail is astonishing. Gaudi thought of everything. Not only did he incorporate the sacred in a salt-of-the-earth way, but he has embodied Spain in the Sagrada Familia. I can see why there has been talk of opening his cause up for Sainthood. A truly Holy man who loved and lived the Faith.
I visited the Sagrada Familia in 2020 and I agree with Ezaballe. It is an inspiring and beautiful cathedral. I have been to St. Peter’s is Rome, Notre Dame in Paris, (before the fire), Westminster Abbey in London, The Doumo in Florence and St. Patricks in New York. In my opinion, the Sagrada Familia in only rivaled for its majesty by the Doumo. Here’s an interior shot.
I also found the Kölner Dom to be quite an experience, some 30 years before my conversion. The intricacy of every visible surface made a profound impression that still remains. I learned to appreciate the spiritual aspect only ex post facto.
I suppose that I should hurry, if I want to see it again, as well as the other sites discussed here. The way things are going, they all will be mosques before too long.

The pendulum is in motion.
The momentum may subside and then even reverse the direction that it’s currently going and of this one fact let us be certain….That Christ has won the war and this pendulum will stop one day.
An eternity of Peace, Tranquility and Bliss for those run the race to the end. Never giving up the advance. Worshiping in cold dark catacombs if we must, but worshipping nonetheless.
Bring on the evildoers and gain your merit men of God.
We fight.
