March 13, 2013: A Date Which Shall Live in Infamy

From Purgatory Pope Alexander VI called a press conference:

I would like to thank so many members of the media for coming.  I realize many of you are quite familiar with the Infernal Regions, but the trip to Purgatory is a  strange one and an arduous one for most of you and I appreciate that I called this press conference on very short notice.

Lately I have taken note that many Catholic bloggers have compared me with one of my successors, Pope Francis.  I must protest this.  I am here for my various lamentable sins which are too well known for me to have to recite now.  However, when it came to the doctrine and beliefs of the Church, I was their champion during my life.  I frequently did not uphold the teachings of Christ in my private life, to say the least, but I never doubted they were true and just.  Pope Francis on the other hand is constantly flirting with heresy and may well have crossed the line, although my loyalty to the papacy will not allow me to say more.  You may ask why a man in Purgatory, as I am, would care about this.  A man may hang for his manifold crimes, but he still may protest a crime he is falsely accused of.  As Pope I never dreamed of altering the teachings of Mother Church.  I died truly repentant of my many, many sins, and through the grace and mercy of God am here in Purgatory.  May my successor have a similar fate, and may he cease attempting to tamper with the Truth of our Holy Faith!

And with that the press conference came to an end.

What makes Pope Francis’ actions so dangerous is that an orthodox interpretation can be made. You have to strain a great, however. It would seem to be better if the Pope came out as full-on heretic.

Quite true. Despite the rather fanciful version of the life of Alexander VI as presented in the Showtime series, there was no toleration of heresy. Would also note that his administration, while overly concerned with the politics of the Papal States, functioned rather well.

Elaine, Congratulations on your kittens. New life is a positive amidst all the bad news we hear about in our country and overseas.

Oh but Greg, he is not subtle at all. It does not require the least amount of heavy examination. The entire tone of his emissions lack Christ, the standard by which every Catholic can begin to discern truth. Christ, as He has been known, understood, and taught over centuries by Catholics, including martyrs and popes, Christ as we would recognize. The emissions of Francis don’t even sound Catholic, when compared to the standard of most actual Catholics over the age of 40. His topics are secular, his focus is secular, at times pagan, his zeal saved for political goals. Where is Christ and Him crucified, in those all too frequent talks or missives? His one job is pass down the faith intact and defend that. He not only does not do that, he proposes an almost unrecognizable Catholic faith, one that is emasculated and weak, one that concerns itself with materialism only, while the supernatural realities are denied.
