It’s Not Easy Being Green

Even the Muppets are “offensive” these days.

Anyone who streams “The Muppet Show” on Disney+ will see a declaimer first — warning of “offensive content.”

Disney released five seasons of the iconic show for streaming on Friday, allowing viewers to enjoy watching Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and their celebrity guests as part of its $6.99-a-month service.

The disclaimer shown prior to each episode warns viewers that the show features “stereotypes” and “mistreatment of people or cultures.”

Or this:

The idiocy, it burns.

I’m so glad that drag queens are not found offensive. That children might gather round in a public place to see just how normal and sensible men dressing as women can be.
[Sit down little ones and ponder the fairy tales told through the dignified man with makeup and five o’clock shadow. See, he’s normal. His frock might not fit like it should but don’t be frightened. He’s just another man who feels like a woman but God was mean to him.] – what a muppet censor would say at a library with Queens and kids.

The world sure has taken a turn to the surreal. Darkest before the dawn? Hurry up Dawn!

Most comedy must now considered offensive… less any truth be said in jest. Even the Muppets.

(And that’s the thing about comedy, it’s disarming and sharp. Comedians often are smart and blunt. Clothe-less emperor pearl clutchers forbid.)

I don’t know when it will stop. But I’ll bet a society that encourages people to be offended at everything, and suffer breakdowns when confronted by anything they find bothersome, is great for business if you work in the mental health industry.

I first encountered this when we watched The Lady and The Tramp. SMH. My children want Disney Plus though, so I agreed to buy buy it. I get movies off of Google, so I guess I would be hypocritial if I did not.
.
Hmm. Now he has a job, I could demand $12 a month…

And apparently you can’t quite get the whole show on physical media either because of numerous licensing issues with the performers and musicians.

Don, I truly mean no offense but sometimes I swear our culture is being killed far more by lawyers than leftists. (Not that I’m against intellectual property – but it’s like so many musical acts are letting themselves be forgotten by ensuring nobody ever gets to hear them. – That’s a rant for another time)

At the rate both groups are going, eventually our phones will have a mandatory app which will inform us all what is the legally and morally approved “phrase of the day” in the morning and you aren’t allowed to not say it.

Many Swedish-American children grew up believing that they couldn’t outwit a chicken. Adults normalized this belief by not speaking out against it. These implicit cultural signals can instill fears that linger into adulthood; many adult Swedes are still reluctant to face off against chickens in a battle of wits, and feel humiliated if they happen to do so and fail. It doesn’t matter that many or even most Swedes aren’t as smart as a chicken. They should feel empowered every time they try.

Pinky, it makes it even funnier that your avatar looks a bit like gonzo on this post.
