Rush Limbaugh has passed away at age 70. A tireless fighter for the pro-life cause and conservatism, his last year was heroic as he did as many shows as possible while battling the cancer that took his life. His final live show was February 2, 2021. He went down swinging. His strong belief in God sustained him while he he went through what was doubtless the most trying time in his life. I had listened to him off and on since 1988. I will miss him intensely. May he now be broadcasting in the land that knows not cancer or death. When he arrived at the Gates of Heaven, I am sure that he had a multitude of the unborn to act as an honor guard.
He had great admiration for JP2 and I think he also liked B16. He had many times expressed his interest in the Church. Unfortunately he also put many obstacles in his pathway to the Lord. I always hoped that he might do a death bed conversion to the Church like so many others. I fear that Bergoglio may have chased him off.
May He Rest In Peace.
I emailed Rush in late November, encouraging him to enter the Church, have his sins forgiven, and save his soul — because he wouldn’t want to spend eternity in Hell with those Democrats who will end up there..
My father was very fond of him. Back in the early 90s when I lived in Japan, my father would send me video tapes of his show. Great stuff, or so I believed. A female friend (non-Japanese) was not at all impressed, and said he was just “justifying” himself, presumably because white men are racist, sexist, and bigotted (homophobia not quite being a thing at that point.) She never did explain what was objectionable.
.
I took to listening to him regularly once I got back to the States. That ended once I had children old enough to home school, but I would manage to listen to him off and on.
.
I wonder who will take up the “mantle” now.
.
We are going to Vespers tonight, and I will light a candle for him.
I got introduced to him in 1990 by a coworker who was actually quite liberal politically and didn’t agree with probably at least 90 percent of what Rush said…. but he still tuned in. I did too, on and off, for the next 30+ years. I did sometimes find his sense of humor off-putting, or even offensive, but when it came to discussing the issues he was spot on. I liked his books as much as his show. Oh, and it was from Rush that I got the news of Pope Benedict’s election in 2005… kind of fitting that he should pass away on Ash Wednesday, the day we all remember that we are dust. Eternal rest grant unto him….
I first heard Rush during the Lewinski scandals– I only remember it because dad had to turn off the radio during the top of the hour news, but Rush did good enough dancing around that it worked.
