Antifa and BLM rioters in Portland marched through suburbs with a guillotine over the weekend. This is all a game for them, an extended role playing exercise at the edge of a very steep precipice they are unaware exists. Boys and girls, if this country should experience a serious Revolution, followed in quick succession by a much more serious Counter Revolution, your role in those bloody proceedings would be merely to provide one of the first layers in the mass graves that would doubtless result. History is replete with fools, but you people win the prize in this country, in this century thus far, in the ever large feckless idiots category. Of course they’re fools, LARPers pretending to be revolutionaries. At the end of the day, they have their homes to go back to, because they’re certainly not destroying their own neighborhoods nor their own businesses.
They’re dangerous, but not as dangerous as the politicians who enable them, refuse to prosecute them, and act as though their riots and looting were peaceful protest.
These immature brats acting out are dangerous enough, but the people behind the scenes, encouraging and legitimizing their behavior, training them, and releasing them after they’ve been arrested, declining to prosecute them, arming them, and covering for them in the media—- those are the truly dangerous people in all this.
I suspect that in future local elections any candidates running on a pro-law and order platform are going to have their campaign events violently targeted by our left’s new LARPing brownshirts.
It looks likely that these thugs and their enablers have made violence a part of our politics for the foreseeable future.

I believe, unfortunately, a few dozen potentially redeemable young lives will be violently taken when the bear they’re poking finally rouses. A harsh lesson at a harsher price, with the bill to be laid squarely at the feet of the Democrat politicians in the cities where it’s happening.

Over the past few years, I’ve developed a rule of thumb:
When those who oppose you politically tell you that they want to kill you, believe them. And prepare / act accordingly.
Wise advice, Jay Anderson. Although from what I’ve been seeing lately, if one does not already own the appropriate firearms and ammunition, one’s preparations may take some time.
Sadly, the most likely preparations my household has is that if there’s a mob of people attempting to stop traffic… I know we can’t stop. I am going to drive over the top of them, because I can’t let my kids (or me, but I might hesitate if it’s just me, because I’m an idiot) be beaten to death for being born with the wrong color of skin, and these mobs have repeatedly demonstrated they will attempt to do so.

Your first post was more accurate and that’s where things are headed as the participation trophies run out in the downtown business/government districts. Perhaps not your block exactly but one much like it and with the same eventual result.
Kurt Schlichter, I believe, has argued the Left treats political violence like a rheostat, something to be dialed up or down as needed; for the Right, it’s an on-off switch.
