I still have fond memories of Butchie, the Dalmatian pet of my maternal grandparents some six decades ago.

I had heard once that dalmatians were really good with horses and that’s why they came to be associated with firemen because the dalmatians would help keep the horses that pulled the fire engine calm when they reached the fire.
Could be just one of those urban legends “everybody knows” but it’s a nice thought with the video.
I had heard the Dalmatians helped clear the way for the horse drawn fire engines. It probably comes down to the fact that they are simply distinctive, handsome dogs and helped add to the dash and heroism of firefighting that has always attracted men to the work and enhanced public support for this necessary public service.
