Can the Democrats keep Joe Biden in his basement and cancel the scheduled debates with President Trump? They would desperately like to, assuming, rightly in my mind, that the debates would reveal Biden to be an old man afflicted with dementia. Right now Biden is doing well in the polls, and therefore Tom Friedman of The New York Times, ever an eager water boy for the party leadership of the Democrats, has floated a trial balloon urging Biden to cancel the debates.
First, let us be clear that whoever is calling the shots in the Biden campaign, it is not Joe Biden, a poor confused ghost of the goofy, corrupt career politician he had been. My guess is that the decision makers are Doctor Jill Biden, the fraumeister, a few chief aides, reps of the top fund raisers and assorted DNC hacks. In short, collective decision making. Collective decision making is cautious decision making. They also get, some more than others, to see Biden in private, and my guess some are probably appalled at what he appears like behind the scenes considering how discombobulated he appears now in public. This would cause them to consider cancelling the debates but I doubt they will do so for the following reasons:
Polls-Right now Biden is riding high, but my guess is that the tough professionals at the heart of the Biden operation do not believe them. Trump polled poorly against Clinton back in 2016 also. The cancel culture madness is likely keeping quite a few Trump supporters from answering polls, and polling firms still have failed to cope with the advance of technology that causes most phone calls not to be picked up and which tends to cause pollsters to greatly under count older rural voters using land lines. They probably think Biden is ahead nationally maybe three to five percent, but that in the states which will decide the election it is close to an even match. Thus the polls are nice for them right now, but they are no guarantee of victory.
Economy-We are in the midst of a V-shaped recovery. As it improves Trump’s fortunes going into the Fall will improve.
Covid-19-A wild card. No one precisely knows how much more of this is going to occur. Democrats have acted like this is a silver bullet, but the more life returns to normal in most of the country, the better for Trump.
Pivot to the Center-The Left wing loon dominant faction in the Democrat party think that this is their year of Jubilee. The Democrat professionals probably secretly fear that their crazies will blow what should be a winnable election.
Two Terms-Since 1932 only two Presidents have been denied two terms: Carter and Bush the Elder. That history would give a pause to any over confident Democrat professionals.
Biden the Challenger-Debates tend to make challengers look the equal of sitting Presidents. Reagan trailed Carter in October polling and turned the election around with his trouncing of Carter in their one and only debate on October 28, 1980. If Biden cancels the debates, Trump will have a field day talking about how mentally failing Joe is afraid to meet him man to man.
For the foregoing, unless Biden suffers a complete mental collapse, I think the debates will proceed as scheduled because the Democrat political operatives at the top of the Biden campaign believe that cancelling the debates would be to euthanize their own campaign. For them the debates are a scary roll of the dice they cannot get around without forfeiting the election. Stock up on the pop corn.
Agree. Right now Trump need to de-fuse the relighting of Democrat Covid fear campaign by emphasizing that Covid had no more deaths than a bad flu year and that now there are readily available cures.

Articles like this explain why this journal should be retiled, “The American Republican.” Wobbily Don, who can barely walk down a ramp or drink a glass of water without using two hands nor conceal his far too hefty frame nor avoid incoherent twitter rages, is hardly an example of a “spry, stable. genius.” He is far more terrified of anyone having a look at his tax returns than Joe Biden is of facing him in a debate. We, of course, shall see what the final results will be. But those “inaccurate polls” from 2016 the author refers to were, in fact, quite accurate. The national average of polls showed Clinton ahead by 2%, nationally – almost identical to the actual result of the national popular vote. Likewise, even if Biden were to win by only the 3-5% the author suggests Biden truly leads by, that should be enough to shift the razor thin margins by which trump won the at least five (and very possibly seven) of the swing states the first time around. An utterly incompetent handling of (and ultimate surrender to) an international pandemic coupled with blatantly racist appeals to his most ardent supporters that has turned off not just people of color but white, suburban women and colleges educated white men who (barely) put him over the top four years ago. We will all know soon enough.

The June polls from 2016 are instructive showing a large lead for Clinton over Trump. However John, I do recommend that you and other Biden supporters have implicit belief in the polls. You have the election in the bag, just like you had it in the bag in 2016. You and your leader in the bunker can coast to victory. All is well for you and the Left. Sleep soundly.
The comparison of Jill Biden with Edith Wilson is scarey similar. Edith kept President Wilson isolated for months, prevented cabinet members from seeing how sick he was and effectively ran the country via Col. House. We don’t know who would pull the strings on a President Biden but it would not be unexpected that a cabal of leftist crazies would see the opportunity to push through their radical programs.
