Like all the rest of us, Popes must be assumed to mean what they say. Honest liars are put to shame by the type of casuistry deployed when a pope says a foolish, factually challenged or mendacious statement, to argue that it can be parsed to make it orthodox. I had enough of that to last me a lifetime in the previous pontificate. The Pope is not a Mormon prophet who can pull new teaching out of his hind end whenever he feels like it. That has never been Catholicism.

So I can defend my family with lethal force if a stranger breaks in wielding a blade or squeezing off rounds, and police can do the same if, say, a monster was shooting at people in a house of worship.
But executing either perpetrator for such crimes makes you anti-life.
Someone make it make sense.
Because the trajectory suggests that the examples in the first sentence will also eventually be anti-life.

Pope or politician? It should be easy to be the Pope. Just stand on the 2000 plus yrs of tradition. Quit trying to please the people who hate you and will do so no matter what you say or do. Stick to the script!

The murderer as a citizen of the state brings himself to equal Justice as the victim. The murderer is executed through his own power of attorney to bring equal Justice to the state and retribution to the victim. Preventing further murders, the deterrence proves the murderer’s conversion and salvation as all souls belong to “their Creator”.
At least the Popesplainers can’t use the “bad translation” excuse anymore.
