The West too often makes the mistake of looking at Islam through a Christian lens.
(Even when the observer is not Christian themselves.)
Serves them right. As Canon Talarico put it so well, “The Church used to know how to deal with Islam.”
Queen Isabel and King John Sobieski knew how to deal with Islam. Kick it in the mouth. Then, keep kicking.
I told my wife I would enjoy seeing clashes between the Western LBGT bunch and Islam. I would sit back and look on with a bowl of popcorn.
That woman was definitely part of the Chickens for KFC brigade. Sounds so pithy in their own mind, and then they all end up being like Warden Norton at the end of Shawshank Redemption, wondering how Andy ever got the best of him.
Although in the case of these people, it’s really easy if you understand Islam as an invading ideology masquerading as a religion, which they don’t.
David, I *wish* the West would look at Islam through a Christian lens.
If you believe in a single god, you have to contend with the question of suffering. The Jews have wrestled with the question. The Christians have the crucified Jesus to hint at the meaning of suffering. Islam has a god whose will is that people suffer, who is all “good” but you can’t even question how a brutal thing is good. The Christian god is worthy of love because He is love. The Muslim god is worthy of obedience because he is irrational power.
That, and anyone who’s read Christian history understands Islam’s default mode. I take the point of your original comment though.
It is amazing how the majority of the left (and a goodly portion of the right) are shallow thinkers. I’m asking for calculus or literary analysis. However, proper application of the question “why?” would improve things a lot.
For example, *why* do I expect a Muslim to support LGBTQ? What in his culture or theology leads one to believe that is a likely scenario?
Similarly, Christians should ask *why* do I expect people who have “freed themselves” from the shackles of Christianity (as understood for 1900 years) to act in a Christian way? Once you stop expecting a post-Christian to act like a Christian, the 21st Century becomes easier to navigate.
Lots of shoals and rocks, but at least you realize they are there!
Hamtramck is the only Muslim majority city in the US. They are mainly from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Yemen. These countries do not practise moderate Islam 😂 So, the lady should have done her research before she decides to gather a bunch of bleeding hearts and handover the city to them. Too late now Stackpoole. Best she move to San Francisco.
Islam: The West’s “Most Formidable and Persistent Enemy”https://www.raymondibrahim.com/2019/02/13/islam-the-wests-most-formidable-and-persistent-enemy/
It’s a good read.. because I think we forgot.
(not referring to individual moslems here, of course-)
The LGBTQ stole our rainbow. Islam will steal our freedom.
