The initiatives of popes seem quite important until after their successor takes office, and then most of those initiatives are quietly shelved and receive, at best, lip service by the new pope.

This is what drives me bonkers about the Catholic Church as a convert. All these Protestant idea like Synodality, which many Protestant Churches have tried, eg. the Anglican Church, and it has led to its downfall. Once a church votes on dogma and theology, it begins its downward course. There’s five hundred years of failed Protestantism, wished these “church leaders” would learn for it.
Amen, Matthew.
I didn’t sign up for “new and improved” either.
I’d read enough product labels by my conversion to know that new and improved either means:
* we made it so a broader audience will like it, while alienating those who already do (New Coke)
* we started using poorer ingredients to save money
* we changed the wrapper, but that’s about it
None of these are necessary for Christ, by definition, perfection.
Any “improvements” (ie changes) to perfection, move away from perfection.
Christ promises to make US new and improved. Doing the opposite is to be in opposition to Christ.
Francis…certainly strained the bonds of filial obedience, didn’t he?
Tough to be a faithful son when you discover that Daddy is a pain the butt.
