Pawns

The ruling mullahs in Iran spent decades building up three proxy forces around Israel:  Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Assad dictatorship in Syria.  Israel smashed Hamas and Hezbollah, and with his main support in Hezbollah gone, the Assad dictatorship has been toppled.  The three pawns of the mullahs have been swept from the chessboard of the Middle East, and the mullahs of Iran, despised by the Iranian people, are beyond panic.  This is the golden opportunity for Trump to complete the anti-Iran alliance that he began with the Abraham Accords in the last year of his first term.  (In the Middle East it is rarely bad guys v. good guys, but usually, at best, bad guys v. worse guys.  The worst guys, however, are the current rulers of Iran.)  In short in dealing with the Middle East the US needs a tough negotiator, unafraid to use airstrikes and support of anti-mullah forces when needed, and who is without illusions about the Middle East.  This is shaping up to be a situation tailor made for Trump’s talents.

I’m afraid Turkey is an emerging factor in this situation. There is reports that Turkey financed the Assad coup to push back the Kurds. Whilst Assad has fled to Russia, the problem is bigger than Iran.

On one hand Turkey have been campaigning for years to be part of the EU and be recognised as a European nation but now that the mullahs are weakened, Turkey see it as an opportunity to be a super power in the ME.

It will be a tough one for Trump. He will use the full force of his power.

God help this world.

As Ezabelle indicates, Turkey is going to be the wild card in the Middle East just as Hungary is proving to be a wild card in central Europe. And if Cailan Georgescu can eventually win in Romania, then there goes that nation.

I doubt that the new regime will look better upon us than the Afghan rebels that we backed in the 80s. Hope I’m wrong.
