Burn of the Day

Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
I can’t stand Thompson.
Meanwhile, Letitia James wants to steal all his property so he cannot pay for private security. Will someone tell me what Democratic politicians do that actually promotes the common good?
Harry Truman, who Puerto Rican nationalists had attempted to murder in 1950, had no security detail from 1953 to 1965. (Bess sat for one interview in her life, given by her daughter who had a side hustle as a TV correspondent. Mrs. Truman said random strangers were making a nuisance of themselves picking her flowers). After Truman’s death, his widow was assigned one agent, who sat in a parked car outside her house. NB, Richard Nixon and his wife gave up their security detail in 1986 and Jacqueline Onassis schlepped around Manhattan for 19 years with no security detail at all above and beyond the doorman at her apartment building. Steven Ford had a funny story about his life with a security detail. He said he was playing chess with them on 20 January 1977. At noon, they all left; he was alone for the first time in 2 1/2 years.
What Michael Kinsley said in 1984 applies here, “Even if Lady Bird Johnson’s life were in danger, the functioning of democracy would not be impaired”. In the ordinary course of events, former presidents and their households should lose their detail after 12 years.
I think Trump is one of the few people who could find people willing to protect him based on deferred compensation.
Perhaps some on no compensation.
If this gets passed, it will backfire, just like all the other petty things they do to Trump.
The more the powers that (shouldn’t) be attack Trump, more he becomes one of us.
When a person is void of Faith. Separated from God by Choice. They have pigeonholed themselves into a perpetual state of dispare and anxiety. Love is Love, as they watch another Trans self-destruct and then mistakenly chalk the suicide up as an act that stemed from a transphobia culture of hate. Conservatives.

Thoughts on the Frailty of Man

The saints of God and all devout friends of Christ did not look to what pleases the body or to the things that are popular from time to time. Their whole hope and aim centered on the everlasting good. Their whole desire pointed upward to the lasting and invisible realm, lest the love of what is visible drag them down to lower things.

Do not lose heart, then, my brother, in pursuing the spiritual life. There is yet time, and the hour is not past.

Why delay the purpose? Arise! Begin at once and say: “Now is the time to act; now is the time to fight; now is the proper time to amend.”

[Footnote: When we focus on the eternal and how God watches over us while we are on the journey we see how things have fallen into place even when at the time it seemed the opposite: a ragged, chaotic, or discouraging course. Lo: God’s vision goes far beyond all the curves on every road above each bump. He knows the rocks, pebbles, and every single grain of sand: the molecules, the atoms that compose them. When all confidence is with His sustenance, there is resignation to His Will which brings a tranquil grateful spirit and cleanses shadows.]

This can only come from someone who has lived off government jobs and the associated perks, their whole career. They typically squeeze every last tax-payers cent for themselves, and make sure nobody else, not even a self-made businessman like Trump who has contributed to the economy/jobs, has even the slightest sniff of the trough that’s fed them their whole “working” life. Leeches.
Lapsed schoolteacher.
Useful idiot.
