Thought For The Day

As my old man used to say, predictions in papers and on television are usually as reliable as the products they are attempting to sell you.

Those false predictions include the threat of doom from anthropogenic global warming –> that we’ll turn Earth into another Venus.

But here is a prediction that will happen –> 2nd Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.

Ah, fond memories of my middle school science textbook showing a chart of when each Opec nation would run out of oil. The last man standing, Kuwait, was done in 1997.

Do you remember the turmoil that region experienced as their influence evaporated with the oil? No, me neither.

And the secularists point and laugh at prophesy as their prophets fail again, and again.

I’m still waiting for the helicopter in everyone’s back yard or, better yet, the flying cars.

LQC:
It’s partly the result of non-experts attempting to use partially-grasped expertise in a way no real expert would. My grandfather spent a few months in dental school in the 1920s. My Dad told me that he remembered just enough about teeth to scare the Hell out of him when he was a kid. To use population as one issue: real demographers (like Nicholas Eberstadt) caution that any forecast more than 20 years out is a fantasy, because it involves human decisions not yet made. It’s like saying “If the hiker keeps walking in a straight line, he will fall off the cliff in 20 yards”, forgetting that the hiker is perfectly capable of discerning the cliff (and may have considered the issue already BTW) and adjusting accordingly.

This is sad to read. At least he is voicing his regret honestly as a warning to others.

David Suzuki has been an advocate against population growth and has made a career being a proponent against human existence. He has called humans bacteria, cancers and maggots. Everyone one of his so-called “predictions” about the population running of food and resources has failed epically. Yet he is still taught in schools and quoted as a world leading scientist and environmentalist.

If you want to follow the science and data, it has indicated the following:

Paradoxically, the more people there are, the more abundant and affordable resources become over time, from food per person to reserves of fossil fuels.

Bruised Optimist:
As a life-long (now retired) science teacher, I observed far more of that panicky false-futurist nonsense in middle school texts than in high school texts. High school science is focused on preparation for college, while middle school science has always tried to “integrate” literacy and social studies into the programs.
The topical political focus BTW is older than you think. I have a 1930 California 7th grade life science book with a chapter called “Our Enemy, the Fly”, and speaking of the benefits of “healthful” sunbathing and insecticides like lead arsenate. The politics changes, the politicking does not.

As another self-inflicted victim of Ehrlich’s false prophesy, I can now state that I no longer attend to the ravings of the popular haruspices as they wave their hands, rank with the guts of hapless chickens. Feh!

Paul Ehrlich’s Population Bomb and Ann Erhlich’s more of the same are working at The Vatican counseling Pope Francis. Hate your neighbor and all pregnant women. People as pollution. People are a parasite on the back of Gaia the World goddess. Pachamama is a finite god. There was enough hatred generated by “Population Bomb” to start World War III
Feminists wanted all women sterilized. Feminists told fathers that they ought not be “saddled” with family, wife and children. Happily married men took off in droves to states without extradition agreements.
God had no place in Population Bomb even though our Declaration of Independence places us in the hands of “divine Providence”.
and the Vatican is paying for this garbage.
