Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. -John 15:13
I see nothing in that verse about laying down one’s life for idiot generals and politicians. No wonder they were dancing.
The Allies had won and had reason to dance.
It is a canard that most of the World War I Generals were idiots. They were men thrown into a maelstrom when technology was changing rapidly and usually they did the best they could. By the end of the War trench warfare had been overcome with new technology: tanks, flamethrowers, better radios, etc, and new techniques: German stormtroop tactics, centralized control of artillery, using trucks to shift forces rapidly, etc. It was a bloody school, but the art of war advanced greatly during the Great War.
