To the lies of politicians.

Not really but he might as well.  Putin and Trudeau are now fellow members of the fake democracy club:

Canada’s parliament has already voted to extend the Emergency Act 30 days longer than was originally called for.

With the Convoy protesters arrested and their trucks towed off, I fail to see how that extension was rationalized— where’s the emergency?

Except of course that Trudeau’s government likely plans to use its new powers to cripple all political opposition as a matter of ‘public safety’. I wonder how many extensions of the EA Trudeau’s party will vote itself before it’s all over?

“ where’s the emergency?”
I think it’s to give time for any protest to be totally crushed financially, then Canada can go back to being a “nice” country.

Trudeau is a tyrant, apparently supported by a majority of the sheeple of Canada. Next, the US. What reaction will we have? A large portion of our population will back the repressive government. As for Putin, his actions in Ukraine are not unlike ours would be if Russia were signing a mutual defense treaty with Mexico.

There is a feedback loop used by a certain brand of particularly shameless politicians where emergency powers are used as proof of the emergency, and hence it continues indefinitely.

Show wall to wall media coverage of people getting arrested by police in full riot gear. If you don’t give any information about what crimes they were arrested for (if indeed they were charged at all) the public will fill in the details themselves. Then since so many dissidents needed to be removed from the streets, it would be too early to let the emergency powers expire. Repeat forever.

You can do variations where you seize bank accounts of prominent (but disliked) personalities, restrict access to streets and other choke points, etc. See for example how the fence around the capitol was used to imply the existence of an ongoing threat, even though no one was killed (except by police) on January 6th and there certainly was no risk after that.

The dictators finally found the way they have been looking for to create a police state. Simply declare an emergency. And never rescind it.

You don’t even have to declare an emergency. We have the FBI snooping without a warrant, IRS leaking tax return information, civil forfeiture without a court order, confinement of demonstrators without bail, and on and on.
