Bless Hi Heart!
In eastern Suffolk County, NY there is an airport with an NY AFNG unit, and it is overrun by deer.
The County agency that manages the Arpt has a set up a group of vetted civilian ‘nuisance shooters’ with authority to go on site and eliminate deer.
My son, his buddy, and I are on the list and will be briefed by the authorities in two weeks.
A deer can cause a lot of damage, and danger to the crew of a C-130; or bang up a Hamptons tree hugger’s BMW.
“Guess who we’re rooting for?”

“Mankind” is a compound of two words.
“Mank” and “ind.”
Part of raising chickens is the cull. It’s not something I enjoy, but it’s necessary at times.
People often object, they’re usually not vegetarian (neither are chickens!) but weepy females or beta males.
To which I say two things:
1. I take very good care of my birds but they are going to have one bad day.
2. It’s tough, I know -and that’s why they call it animal “husbandry”.
(I hunt deer as well and my biggest worry is always not putting the animal down quickly -and not having it wander off into the woods of lost.)
Hunters in my experience care most for the wild life. Hunters I know always want to give a quick and clean kill to the animals they hunt,
So true. Harvesting an animal is the finale note on hunting and it always entails (argh) a lot of work afterwards.
I hunt to truly get away from from everything, clear the mind and be part of nature.
We humans are humane predators, and we’re part of this world!
That is so often ignored by the green crowd today.
We’re part of this world!
Hunting manages the deer population. Over population of deer herds cause disease. Destruction to crops also. Deer strikes are costly to humans and their vehicles. We allow deer hunting on our farm but the hunters are by invitation only, which our employee manages. Bow, black powder, shotgun and rifle hunting have different seasons. No way do we allow hunting with dogs on our farm. It seems cruel. All that adrenalin from the chase probably affects the taste of venison. West of the VA ridge dogs are not allowed. Some of the parks and battlefields allow night vision hunting to cull the herd, Hunters have to sign up. For many families in our county deer meat may be their winter meat. Hunters that we know share the venison. What’s dangerous is when some, but not all, hunt clubs drink when hunting.
Videos like this give a peek into how things were supposed to be before the Fall. It’s like animals sometimes say “yeah, yeah, I know we’re not in Eden any more, but I’m in trouble here, so do your job”.
I have gotten that feeling Pinky when animals in distress have looked at me.
